WORK - Handwork and commitment
Every day when I am making my work, I am impressed by the beauty of the colours and textures that are created by chance. The expression that is created by chance is different each time due to the combination of various factors, such as the different colours and textures of the clay used, the many glazes, the type of kiln used for firing, the temperature of the kiln, and so on. The beauty of surprise and coincidence, the beauty of a once-in-a-lifetime encounter, is the charm of making ceramic art. I am very happy that people like my work、 welcome it and use it as part of their daily life.
potter's wheel
When making wheel-thrown works, the mind is concentrated on a single point to create the ideal form. At OGI’s KOBO’s studio, I mainly use the potter’s wheel to make cups and flowerpots. I specialise in the wheel-thrown technique of attaching high legs that evoke an antique look.
stamping using a mould
Mould-plastering is a technique used to create works of a shape that cannot be made on the potter’s wheel. A plaster mould is used and moulded by placing clay stretched into a tatara shape on top of it.
forming by hand (instead of using a potter's wheel, etc.)
The beauty of ceramics made by hand, without the use of a potter’s wheel or mould, is their simplicity and warmth. The style of the work oozes a taste and atmosphere and a unique sense of warmth that cannot be produced by the industrial products on the market.
